ALGER, Wash. – Nine years ago, when he was a teenager, Roger Crockett raced
for Henderson Motorsports and found victory lane at the Skagit 360
Nationals. He’s only won once at Skagit since.
Reunited with Henderson Motorsports for 2007, Crockett is having success
already as he won a race in California and then took the checkers in the
inaugural Northwest Sprint Challenge Series event two weeks ago at Grays
Harbor Raceway. Crockett, out of Medford, will look to end his dry spell at
Skagit Speedway this weekend when the NSCS visits on Friday and Saturday.
The California-based Henderson Motorsports team is no stranger to Skagit
Speedway, always being a threat to win whenever they have visited the
3/10-mile, high-banked clay oval. Back in 1989, they won a Dirt Cup with
California legend Jimmy Sills.
In 1999, Henderson Motorsports brought in Steve Kent and they immediately
saw success. Kent won the Skagit 360 Nationals that year, and two years
later Kent brought the team back to the winners circle in the Dirt Cup. Kent
again won back-to-back Skagit 360 Nationals in 2003 and 2004. Along the way,
the team scored several more top five finishes in those two big events at
Skagit.
For Crockett, the four-time Northern Sprint Tour champion, the dry spell at
Skagit could end this weekend, especially if his faith in his car owner is
warranted.
“If Roger (Henderson) keeps giving me these awesome cars, we’re going to win
a lot of races,” Crockett said following his dominating victory at Grays
Harbor on April 28.
Crockett, the all-time leader in Northern Sprint Tour victories, is piloting
the long familiar No. 7N, an Eagle powered by a Bailey Bros. engine. He
heads into the event with a six point lead over Central Point, Ore. star
Billy Nutter.
