What better way to graduate high school than with a winners trophy and a Hooters girl on each arm?
Ayden, NC - It's a special occasion for moms, dads, family, and
friends alike when someone close to their heart takes the step into the
"real world" and graduates high school. It's usually an emotional time
especially for moms, but somehow Lori Stancill (Ben's mom) didn't quite
picture Ben walking across the stage of his high school graduation at an
USAR event with Hooters girls at his side eighteen years ago! However
other than USAR Hooters Pro Cup driver Ben Stancill missing his
opportunity to walk across the stage for his high school graduation in
his hometown of Ayden, NC it was just another day at an unfamiliar track
and another top-10 finish for the eighteen-year-old driver.
"I bet most guys can't say they walked across the stage with the Hooters
Pro Cup series girls at their side! It was a pretty cool deal. My mom
has said she was going to make me walk across the stage with my cap on
since the schedule came out and saw that there was going to be a
conflict with graduation, but I was glad to do it for her. I know she
has waited eighteen years for me to do so, so I figured it was the least
I could do," said Stancill.
Stancill would be one of the cars at the top of the speed chart all
practice long posting the third quickest time in practice just behind
defending northern division champion Benny Gordon, and southern division
rookie Brian Scott. Stancill would qualify his Stancill Farms Ford
Fusion fifth but finish eighth, after several misfortunate incidents
"It was another solid run for us. We had a couple of bad things happen
to us, like when I stalled the car on pit road and then someone got into
the back of us while we were checking up for an incident that happened
in front of us. They sent us to the back of the pack and said we were
part of the caution, but I am not exactly sure what they were thinking
because the caution had already came out and Jack (Bailey) must have not
seen us checking up and spun us. So we had to come from the back of the
pack to finish where we did it was a hard fought top-10," added
With another solid run, Stancill and company moved to the eighth
position in the overall championship points standings and remain second
in the Miller Lite Rookie of the Year standings just behind fellow North
Carolina native rookie Brandon Ward. The team will now turn its focus to
the Lucas Oil 200 at the Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana on June 30th,
for yet another track the young driver has never seen before.
