Durham, NC - If there was a wave of momentum carrying drivers into the
five race championship series shootout, USAR Hooters Pro Cup driver, Jay
Fogleman, must have just learned to surf. Coming off of a season-best
third place finish at the Southern Raceway Park, the Greased
Lightning/The Works Ford Fusion clean team came to the legendary Hickory
Motor Speedway looking for more. Fogleman silenced any possible doubters
by qualifying tenth, leading laps, and finishing in the second position
"This is unbelievable! We couldn't crack the top-fifteen, much less a
top-five in a race or even qualifying at the beginning of the season but
now since we've had a shot at winning in the last two races it's a
little disappointing not to take home a trophy. As a team we haven't
really changed anything, we just have everyone in the right spots and
peaking as a team at the right time of the season," stated Fogleman.
From the drop of the green flag Fogleman maneuvered his The Works Ford
Fusion into the top-ten before hitting pit road with the leaders.
Several mid-pack cars stayed out to lead laps while Fogleman jockeyed
his way to the lead when those cars eventually came in to pit. It became
a battle between rookie and veteran as sixteen-year-old, DEI development
driver, Trevor Bayne went to the outside of Fogleman on lap 181 of the
250 lap event securing his first series win.
"We had a good car all night long but there is no way we had anything
for Trevor (Bayne). He was so fast; I don't think he knew where he
wanted to pass me. I couldn't even make an attempt to slow him down and
he just went right on by. I couldn't be happier with this team; we had a
rough start to the season but everyone has kept their heads up and
focused on winning races. We'll just get ready for Bristol and try to
survive that place and then it will be time for the championship races
and that's where we hope the best is still yet to come," said the series
